2009 CONSOLIDATED ELECTION

 

 

If five (5) or more candidates have filed for the offices of Mayor, Alderman, City Clerk, Township Supervisor and Township Assessor, a Consolidated Primary Election must be held. If only four (4) candidates file for any of these offices, no primary is required. [65 ILSC 5/3.1-20-35]

 

September 16, 2008 - First day that candidates seeking nomination for the offices of Mayor, Alderman, City Clerk, Township Supervisor and Township Assessor in the Consolidated Primary Election (if needed) may circulate petitions.

 

December 8-15, 2008 - Filing period for candidates seeking nomination in the Consolidated Primary Election. Petitions for the Consolidated Primary Election must be filed with the City Clerk's office (no exceptions). Monday, December 15, 2008 is the last day to file.

 

NOTE: A Primary Election will be held February 24, 2009 only if there are more than five (5) candidates running for any one office (mayor, city clerk, township supervisor, township assessor or ward alderman). Otherwise, petitions filed by December 15 will be used automatically for the Consolidated Election to be held April 7, 2009.

 

All candidates are advised to consult with an attorney prior to filing petitions. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that he/she has all the information required to pursue the office of choice.
